At the same time, switch the second working day of August 31 to the weekly holiday of Saturday, August 22.
Thus, along with weekly holidays, civil servants and public employees will have 5 consecutive days off on the occasion of National Day 2026.
For employees in the business sector, National Day 2026 is off on September 2nd and an additional day chosen by the employer is September 1st or September 3rd. The enterprise is responsible for notifying employees of the holiday plan at least 30 days before implementation.
The Ministry of Home Affairs requests administrative agencies, non-business units, political organizations, socio-political organizations and businesses to proactively arrange on-duty forces and arrange work reasonably to ensure smooth operation, continuous work resolution and service to the people.
According to the provisions of the Labor Code, in case a weekly holiday coincides with a holiday or Tet, employees are entitled to compensatory leave on the next working day.
The Ministry of Home Affairs also encourages employers to apply the 2026 National Day holiday for employees similar to the plan for civil servants and public employees, and at the same time have more beneficial agreements for employees.
Regarding the proposal to add more holidays on National Day, at the press conference to inform about the results of the 14th Vietnam Trade Union Congress, Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Ngo Duy Hieu said that the number of holidays in Vietnam is still lower than the average level of many countries in the region.
According to Mr. Hieu, increasing holidays not only helps workers reduce stress, regenerate labor capacity, and improve work productivity, but also contributes to stimulating consumer demand and promoting the development of services and tourism. In addition, workers also have more time for their families and taking care of their children.
With long holidays, travel experts recommend that people and tourists should proactively plan their travel, book air tickets, trains, and accommodation services early to avoid overload or high prices during peak seasons.
