According to the Russian Transport Ministry, the two sides will maintain a monthly flight as North Korea gradually loosens border control.
At Pyongyang airport, the flight was solemnly welcomed with a flower-giving ceremony for the crew and Russian delegates. North Korean Foreign Economic Minister Yun Jong Ho affirmed that the restoration of the route is a testament to the deep friendship between the two countries and will contribute to promoting bilateral economic and trade cooperation.
Although North Korea has not yet completely reopened to international visitors, the flight is expected to gradually resume sightseeing activities, especially from Russia.
Previously, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov visited Wonsan-Kalma resort, a key project expected to develop tourism after the pandemic. He pledged to encourage Russian tourists to visit. This resort has a capacity of nearly 20,000 people.
In addition to the new route, the Vladivostok - Pyongyang route has also been reconnected since 2023.
