Ninh Binh is an ancient land of the Red River Delta, with an important geographical location, favored by nature, endowed with many rich and unique natural landscapes with many famous landscapes and scenic spots; diverse mountain, river, and cave systems; convenient transportation system; along with unique historical, cultural, architectural and artistic relics; in which, the most typical is the World Cultural and Natural Heritage Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex.
In recent years, Ninh Binh province has not only attracted a large number of tourists but has also been chosen by many domestic and international filmmakers as the setting for famous films such as: The Quiet American, The Two Daughters of the Medicinal Garden Owner, The Hero's Destiny, The Desire for Thang Long... In particular, in 2016, Ninh Binh was chosen as one of three locations in Vietnam to film the famous film Kong: Skull Island by director Jordan Vogt-Roberts.
Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong - Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ninh Binh province, commented that the films that have been chosen by international film crews, domestic film studios, and Vietnam Television to film in Ninh Binh show that the locality is one of the typical provinces of the country, fully capable of becoming a filming location for Hollywood blockbusters as well as Vietnamese films to promote the culture, tourism, and people of the ancient capital of a thousand years of civilization to international friends.
According to Mr. Cuong, last October, Ninh Binh province signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the Ninh Binh Provincial People's Committee and the Vietnam Cinema Promotion and Development Association. The goal of the cooperation program is to attract and promote filmmaking and gradually build the film industry in Ninh Binh in conjunction with the development of tourism, cultural industry, and entertainment industry of Ninh Binh province.
Some specific cooperation goals to be implemented include: Building and implementing the Index to attract film crews and develop the film industry in Ninh Binh; attracting and organizing domestic and international film events to create a space for connection, sharing, information, promoting cooperation between Ninh Binh and film studios, directors, screenwriters, actors, investors in developing the film industry; building and perfecting local mechanisms and policies of Ninh Binh for developing the film industry ecosystem, especially attracting investment, promoting potential, building film studios, supporting the promotion and development of cinema, contributing to promoting innovation in the country's film industry development policy.
The cooperation period between the two sides lasts 12 years, from 2024 to 2035, including 2 phases: The starting phase (from 2024 to 2025), preparing and implementing a number of short-term activities (promotional events in Ninh Binh through cinema, attracting film crews to Ninh Binh, making short documentaries, preparing scripts for feature films about Ninh Binh); the implementation phase takes place from 2026 to 2035.
