According to the announcement, the temporary suspension is to serve the repair and upgrade of infrastructure, complete conditions to serve sightseeing activities, and at the same time ensure landscape and safety for tourists. During this time, local authorities request people and tourists not to move, visit or approach the construction area to ensure safety for people and property.
Dong Van Commune People's Committee also requested agencies, units, organizations, individuals and travel businesses to seriously comply with the notice. In case of intentional violation, if an incident occurs, relevant individuals or organizations will be fully responsible.

This is the second time this tourist attraction has temporarily stopped welcoming visitors. Previously, the area was closed in September 2025 to overcome safety shortcomings and reopened after about 10 days. This time, the renovation will be carried out more synchronously, including infrastructure repair, installing additional warning signs, directions and completing safety assurance conditions before reopening.
Death rock outcrop" is a famous check-in point located in the landscape space of Ma Pi Leng pass - Hanh Phuc road. The area has a dangerous limestone mountain terrain, many rock outcrops protruding out of the cliffs, creating a wide view, so it attracts many tourists to visit and take photos.
However, the protruding rocks are located close to the edge of the abyss, with a nearly vertical slope down to the deep abyss of about 500-700 m. The surface is full of sharp cat ear rocks, not flat, posing a risk of slipping, tripping or rolling rocks when tourists climb, stand for photos. The approach from the concrete road is mainly walking through the slopes and rocky outcrops, many sections are steep, narrow and difficult to move.
Previously, a number of accidents had occurred in this area. In 2023, a British tourist slipped and fell down about 2m while taking pictures and was injured. In 2021, a backpacker from Son La also had a similar accident. Although the authorities have placed warning signs about dangers, many tourists still risk climbing out to the rocky outcrops near the abyss to take pictures.
