The People's Committee of Dong Van commune has just announced that it will temporarily stop receiving visitors in the "death" quarry area until September 16.
Accordingly, the entire concrete road from the Youth Volunteer Monument to the stone quarry area and neighboring walkways has been re-closed to serve the work of infrastructure renovation, railing installation and stone fencing.
The leader of Dong Van commune said that the temporary suspension of this tour is to beautify the landscape as well as ensure the safety of tourists. After completion, the commune government will announce the reopening of the gate to welcome visitors.

The "death" rock mine is located at an altitude of about 700m above sea level, on Ma Pi Leng pass, only 2km from Dong Van ancient town and the old Meo Vac town.
The road to the quarry is a small concrete road along the steep cliff that can only be reached by motorbike or on foot. When approaching the area, visitors have to climb 30 - 40m of more rugged stone road to get to the rock lumps that emerge into the air.
The "death" rock mine in Dong Van attracts both Vietnamese and foreign tourists, especially those who love adventurous experiences and want to have unique paintings when traveling in the stone plateau. Among them, many international travel bloggers and photographers have come and shared photos to check-in.
However, in recent years, the number of customers coming to check-in has increased, posing many potential risks. In January 2021, a Vietnamese male tourist slipped and fell into a stream while climbing a "death" rock to check-in. In March 2023, a British tourist was also injured while climbing a rock hill to take virtual photos.
