Train suspension due to major floods in the Central region, thousands of visitors affected

Due to the impact of heavy rain and floods in the Central region, on the evening of October 27, Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR) announced the temporary suspension of many trains.

It is estimated that about 2,700 passengers will be affected in their travel plans by Thong Nhat and tourist boats.

Accordingly, trains SE1/SE2 and SE3/SE4 running on the North-South route, departing from Hanoi and Saigon stations on the evening of October 27, along with trains SE19/SE20 on the Hanoi - Da Nang route, both had to temporarily suspend operations.

In the Central region, the tourism program "Connecting heritage" with trains HD1/2 and HD3/4 (Hue - Da Nang route) also stopped operating on October 28 and 29.

VNR said it has sent notices to passengers via text messages, Zalo, official website and fanpage. Passengers with tickets for affected trains can go to the station to return their tickets for free within 30 days from the date of departure printed on the ticket.

Currently, floods have caused many sections of the North-South railway to be flooded, especially in Thua Thien Hue.

VNR is coordinating with infrastructure units to closely monitor the development of floods and rains, ready to restore train operations when safety conditions are guaranteed.

In the past four days, the area from Hue to Quang Ngai has recorded common rainfall of 400-600 mm, with Bach Ma peak alone exceeding 2,000 mm, causing the water level of rivers to rise, in some places exceeding the historical flood level in 2020.

According to the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention, the measured rainfall from 7pm on October 23 to 7am on October 27 in Hue, Da Nang and Quang Ngai ranged from 400-600 mm, with some points over 800 mm.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting predicts that heavy rain will continue until the end of October, concentrated in the southern Quang Tri - Da Nang and eastern Quang Ngai areas with total rainfall of 200-400 mm, locally over 700 mm.

Hue and Da Nang may experience rainfall of 300-500 mm, the highest in the area over 800 mm.

Passengers planning to travel in the coming days should regularly update information on the website, fanpage or contact the station directly for support.

The trains will resume operation when the weather is stable and safety conditions are guaranteed.
