Tourist groups come to offer incense in a solemn and respectful atmosphere. In each person's hands are bouquets of fresh flowers, incense sticks, carrying deep gratitude to the generations of fathers and brothers who fell for today's peace.
At Quang Tri Citadel - the place marking 81 days and nights of fierce fighting in 1972, a large number of delegations, veterans and people successively entered the relic site to offer flowers and incense.
In the quiet space, people spent a minute of silence, respectfully bowing in front of the Central Memorial, commemorating the souls of the martyrs who have forever lain on this historical land.
Sharing after offering incense at Truong Son Martyrs' Cemetery and National Martyrs' Cemetery of Road 9, Mr. Nguyen Minh Duc said that being able to directly offer incense to commemorate heroic martyrs is extremely meaningful and lucky for him.
On the way here, the weather was very hot, but when I stepped into the cemetery grounds, I felt a cool and very sacred space. This is the first time I have visited both cemeteries, so the emotions are hard to describe. When I started offering incense, gusts of wind suddenly blew through, trees rustled. Everyone jokingly said that the martyrs were smiling to welcome those who came to pay tribute. That moment made my heart feel lighter, more touched and joyful than ever," Mr. Duc shared.
The incense sticks lit not only express gratitude to those who sacrificed but also remind today's generations of the value of peace and the sacrifice of blood and bones of so many children of Vietnam.
