This list analyzed 53 locations globally to determine the factors that influence the situation of streets with car-free sections.
To determine the benefits of car-free streets, researchers considered factors such as: total bicycle distance in the city, number of pedestrian streets; Safety factors of each city; public transport costs and public transport density; average monthly rainfall; the number of car-free locations and the proportion of residents living within one kilometer of a health care and educational facility.
After reviewing all that data, the research team determined Tokyo (Japan) is one of the most walkable cities in the world and the most walkable city in Asia. " The only non-European city in the top 10 list is Tokyo, ranked 6th" - the research team emphasized.

In Tokyo, from walking and shopping in Ginza to visiting the restaurants in Shibuya or exploring beautiful parks, temples and historical sites, visitors to Tokyo can do it all on foot.
Tokyo also has an excellent public transportation system that is both spacious and easy to use, even for first-time visitors.
The most pedestrian-friendly city in the world is Munich (Germany). Munich earns this title thanks to its extensive system of cycling and walking paths, and the fact that 86% of the local population lives within 1km of car-free streets.
