Golden season in Mu Cang Chai with few visitors
Since September, the number of tourists to Yen Bai has decreased by 40%, tourism revenue has decreased by over 40% compared to the same period in 2023 due to the impact of storm No. 3 Yagi.
Sharing with Lao Dong, Mr. Minh Khoi, a tourism businessman in Yen Bai, said: "September and October are usually the best times of the year to come here to see the Mu Cang Chai terraced fields, but last September, the number of customers canceling tours and rooms was very high."
According to statistics from local authorities, due to the impact of floods, nearly 70% of tourists canceled their reservations in Nghia Lo town, Van Chan district was nearly 80%, Tram Tau 30%, Mu Cang Chai had nearly 50% of guests cancel their reservations and 40% postponed their trips to October.
“After the storm and flood season, tourism in Yen Bai is gradually recovering. Flooded sections have receded, and roads to tourist areas are clear. However, this year, tourism revenue in Yen Bai will probably decrease, with fewer tourists than in previous years,” said Minh Khoi.
In October, when Yen Bai enters its most beautiful golden season of the year, the tourism industry continues to be affected by floods and landslides.
Due to the influence of cold air compressing the low trough connected to storm No. 5 Krathon, combined with high-altitude wind convergence, from the night of September 30 to October 1, the weather in Yen Bai had heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms. As of noon on October 2, the locality recorded one death; 521 houses were damaged, over 560 hectares of crops were destroyed; many roads were eroded, causing traffic jams. Estimated damage was about 6 billion VND.
Previously, in order to restore the tourism industry, Yen Bai province directed the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and localities and sectors to quickly overcome and repair landslide-hit roads to create convenience and safety for tourists, in order to attract tourists back after storms and floods.
Tourists visiting Yen Bai this weekend have many activities to experience. According to the Department of Culture and Information of Mu Cang Chai district, the contest of fast rice harvesting, good plowing, and beautiful embankment building will be held on October 5-6 in Che Cu Nha commune with 14 competing teams; the Mong people's new rice celebration (5th time) will follow on October 12 in La Pan Tan commune.
In October, there are also a number of activities to serve the people and tourists such as: the art photo exhibition "Colors of Mu Cang Chai"; art performances by people from communes and towns on weekends; the Mucangchai Ultra Trail Marathon 2024 with nearly 2,000 athletes participating...
Cao Bang hopes to welcome back many visitors
Cao Bang is also in the process of recovering from the damage caused by storm No. 3 Yagi and the impact of storm No. 5 Krathon. The locality has issued landslide warnings to 80 households and has made plans to proactively relocate and evacuate.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Huy, a transportation service business owner in Cao Bang, said: "Landslides or flooding are not located at tourist spots."
Currently, the weather in Cao Bang is sunny and cool, favorable for tourism and exploration activities. Tourist attractions such as Lenin Stream and Ban Gioc Waterfall welcome visitors as usual. Tourists can enjoy the most beautiful ripe rice season of the year when traveling to Cao Bang at this time.
"Some new activities in Cao Bang such as picking chestnuts and visiting bamboo forests are currently attracting many tourists to come and experience," said Mr. Quang Huy.
However, tourists still need to be careful and limit traffic through areas with high risk of landslides. Especially on National Highway 4A, the section passing through Bang Ca hamlet, Ly Quoc commune, Ha Lang district and residential group 3 of Bao Lac town; the foot and top of Ma Phuc pass...
