The Argentine Football Association (AFA) has negotiated many times with the representative of coach Lionel Scaloni before the team goes to the US to participate in the 2026 World Cup. The two sides are said to have agreed on basic terms and are just waiting to complete the procedures after the tournament ends.
The 48-year-old strategist is considered a suitable factor to continue leading Albiceleste for many years to come, with the goal of conquering the 2030 World Cup and building a foundation for the next stage.
However, Scaloni does not want information related to the contract to affect Argentina's journey to defend the championship. He proposed to put aside all public discussions until the 2026 World Cup ends so that the whole team can focus maximally on expertise.
Since taking over the Argentine national team in 2018, Scaloni has created a real revolution. The match against Cabo Verde in the round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup will mark the milestone of 100 matches he has led Albiceleste. After 99 matches, the coach born in 1978 won 72, drew 18 and only lost 9 matches.
More importantly, Scaloni brought Argentina back to the number one position in world football. Under his leadership, Argentina won the Copa America in 2021 and 2024, won the Finalissima 2022 before conquering the 2022 World Cup championship.
If the new contract valid until 2031 is completed, Scaloni will continue to accompany Argentina at the 2030 World Cup.
