The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has announced a bonus fund for the 2026 World Cup with a total value of up to 655 million USD, an increase of 50% compared to the previous World Cup. Notably, even teams eliminated from the group stage also received bonuses of up to 9 million USD.
According to the new allocation structure, teams that stop right after the group stage still receive 9 million USD in prize money, enough money for many football federations to invest in training and preparation for the next tournaments.
Teams that qualify for the round of 16 will receive a minimum of 11 million USD. From here, the bonus increases significantly with each round, creating great motivation for teams in the knockout stage.
Teams that enter the top 16 will receive 15 million USD, while 8 teams participating in the quarter-finals will be awarded 19 million USD.
In the final stage, the prize money continues to increase sharply. The third-place team receives 29 million USD, the runner-up pockets 33 million USD, and the 2026 World Cup champion will receive a prize money of up to 50 million USD.
The difference in prize money between rounds is very large. A team eliminated from the group stage receives less than 1/5 compared to the champion. This means that each match in the knockout round is not only of professional significance but also has great economic value.
