Chelsea brings sorrow to Barcelona in the Joao Pedro deal

Despite Barcelona's monitoring of striker Joao Pedro this summer, Chelsea still has no intention of parting ways with their young star.

Barcelona is actively looking for options to strengthen the attack, as Robert Lewandowski's future at Camp Nou is closing. Initially, Julian Alvarez of Atletico Madrid was identified as the top target, but the contract release fee of up to 500 million euros made the deal almost impossible.

In that context, Joao Pedro of Chelsea emerged as a notable replacement. According to sources from Brazil and Spain, Barcelona had initial contacts with representatives of the Brazilian striker before the summer transfer window.

This deal received support from coach Hansi Flick as well as sporting director Deco, who appreciated Joao Pedro's flexibility and scoring efficiency. Barca's football coordinator Bojan Krkic praised the Brazilian star: Joao Pedro is the ideal player for Barca's system.

I will bet on him more than on Julian Alvarez. He finishes well, plays smartly and is very comprehensive. He is not only a top scorer but also a better player overall.

However, Chelsea quickly showed a tough stance. The London team affirmed that Joao Pedro is not for sale, at least not in the upcoming transfer window.

This decision is not surprising as Joao Pedro is one of the most important players in Chelsea's attack. After joining Brighton for £60 million, the 23-year-old player scored 19 goals in all competitions in his first season at Stamford Bridge.

Not only contributing goals, Joao Pedro is also highly appreciated for his ability to connect his playing style and put pressure on the opponent's defense. Besides, Chelsea also has difficulty finding a commensurate replacement.
