On May 13, within the framework of the 1st Lam Dong Provincial Sports Festival in 2026, the Provincial Chess Tournament officially kicked off at the Provincial Sports Competition Center.
The tournament attracted nearly 100 athletes from 17 delegations, representing localities, units and chess clubs in the province to compete.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Huynh Ngoc Tam - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lam Dong province - said that the tournament is organized to create a useful and healthy playground for athletes; and at the same time contribute to promoting the movement of chess training and competition in the province to develop more and more.
Through the tournament, the Organizing Committee will assess professional quality, discover and select outstanding athletes to continue fostering and participating in regional and national-level tournaments in the coming time.
Immediately after the opening ceremony, the athletes conducted a draw, determined the matches and entered the first sets with high determination.
The tournament takes place from May 13 to 16. The closing and award ceremony is scheduled to be held on May 16.
