Manchester United put goalkeeper Angus Gunn on the transfer target list after his impressive performance at the 2026 World Cup.
The Old Trafford team is said to be preparing for the possibility of parting ways with both Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir in the summer transfer window, thereby needing to add an experienced goalkeeper.
Angus Gunn is currently a free agent after his contract with Nottingham Forest expires at the end of the 2025-2026 season.
Although Scotland lost to Brazil 0-3 in the last round of Group C of the 2026 World Cup, the 30-year-old goalkeeper is still considered one of the bright spots of the team thanks to his reflexes and playing experience.
Previously, he contributed to helping Scotland defeat Haiti 1-0 with a clean sheet and maintained stable form throughout the group stage.
The deal is said to be well-founded as Gunn has a close relationship with Football Director Jason Wilcox. The two worked together at the Manchester City academy before Gunn moved to develop his career at Norwich City, Southampton, Stoke City and Nottingham Forest.
In addition to Gunn, Man United is also considering Karl Darlow of Leeds United as a backup option. However, when Darlow is in the process of negotiating a contract extension with Leeds, Gunn is considered a more feasible option.
Signing a goalkeeper on a free transfer will help Man United increase the depth of the squad without having to spend a transfer fee, and also create more quality options if Onana and Bayindir leave Old Trafford this summer.
