Teqball World Championship 2024 - Teqball World Championship 2024 is organized by Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee in coordination with the International Teqball Federation - FITEQ.
The event will take place from December 4-8 at Nguyen Hue Walking Street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. The tournament will gather the largest number of athletes - up to 221 athletes, including 86 female athletes, 135 male athletes from 95 countries and territories.
Athletes will compete in 5 categories: Men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles. A total of 301 matches will be held within the framework of the tournament.
The country with the largest number of participating athletes: Vietnam with 9 athletes, followed by Germany and Malaysia, each with 7 athletes.
Mr. Nguyen Nam Nhan, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, said that the highlight of this tournament is that before attending the opening ceremony, the participating delegations and visitors will watch special programs with the theme "Hello Vietnam!" in the area in front of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee; visit the Southern-style Oriental House and enjoy tea with the theme "Welcoming guests - Inviting tea".
This is the first time Ho Chi Minh City has organized a world-class tournament with the most participating countries and territories. In addition to the professional significance, through the tournament, the Organizing Committee also hopes to promote the image of Vietnam and the city named after Uncle Ho as young, dynamic, and the largest economic center in the country.
Regarding the reason for choosing Ho Chi Minh City as the host of the tournament, Mr. Gabor Borsanyi - Chairman of FITEQ said that this is a dynamic and creative city, where people have a positive lifestyle. In addition, local leaders are also very supportive in developing this new sport. Therefore, FITEQ hopes that through this, it will help spread Teqball to a large audience in Vietnam.
Teqball is a sport that combines table tennis, sepak takraw and football, played in indirect confrontation. This sport was born in Hungary in 2014 by former player Gabor Borsanyi, businessman Gyorgy Gattyan and computer scientist Viktor Huszar.
To date, Teqball is considered the fastest growing new sport in the world, with more than 140 national federations, over 2,000 clubs worldwide and over 1,800 trained referees.
FITEQ has organized 3 World Cups and is officially recognized by the Olympic Committee of Asia (OCA) and the Olympic Committee of Africa (ANOCA). In November 2020, FITEQ was granted full membership of the Global Association of International Sports Federations.
Nowadays, Teqball is popular and widely played in Spain and Portugal. Teqball is also growing rapidly in North America and South America.
