Ho Chi Minh City wants to rename 4 key national highways passing through the area into 7 new names, named after former leaders of the Party, State, and commanders of the Ho Chi Minh campaign.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just sent a document to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for comments on naming streets, public works and adjusting the routes of some streets in Ho Chi Minh City.

National Highway 1 is more than 44 km long through Ho Chi Minh City, divided into 3 sections with new names:

- The section from Thu Duc intersection (old Tram Hai intersection) to An Suong intersection (21 km) is expected to be named Do Muoi.

- The section from An Suong intersection to An Lac (14 km) is expected to be named Le Duc Anh.

- The section from An Lac to the border of Long An province (9.4 km) is proposed to be named Le Kha Phieu.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the new name is to honor the leaders of the Party, State, and commanders of the Ho Chi Minh campaign, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).
