Mai Dung was a student majoring in History at Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted (Hanoi). Having always chosen the financial field according to her family's orientation, the more she studied, the more she found this to be the right choice and suitable for herself.
Mai Dung said that the financial field is not as dry as many people think and has many similarities with History - her favorite subject and also her advantage in high school.
The more I learned, the more I explained why things worked like that, what circumstances led to such results, etc. Accounting, Auditing and Finance appeared in life a lot. In particular, in the DDP program, teachers are regularly contacted by practice, and students also have many opportunities to practice and intern at large companies and enterprises. Therefore, I can apply theory to practice and learning becomes interesting, not having to dry out all the numbers or having to calculate too much" - the female student shared.
The DDP (Dual Degree Programme) is a Training Linkage Program for Each Party at Level One of the Bachelor's degree between the Academy of Finance and the University of Greenwich (USA).
Students like Mai Dung, when graduating, will receive a Bachelor's degree in Finance - Banking issued by the Academy of Finance and a Bachelor's degree in Accounting - Finance issued by the University of Greenwich (UK). When graduating, they will also be assessed by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), recognized as exempt from the exam for all 9 subjects F (from F1-F9) within the framework of the ACCA's practice certificate exam.
This is a competitive advantage for students when they graduate and start the labor market compared to their peers Mai Dung said and shared that this is also the reason she decided to choose the DDP program.
However, to be able to complete the curriculum is not easy.
At first, when entering university, Mai Dung felt overwhelmed by the new way of learning, the approach to a specific field, major. But in a short time, with her own efforts and enthusiastic support from teachers and female students, she was able to access higher education.
"There are days when I text teachers to ask at 12 midnight but they are still enthusiastic about answering and guiding me. In addition, I spend time researching and reading more specialized documents to improve my foreign language proficiency, etc. Mai Dung said.
For the first 3 years, DDP students will study at the International Training Institute - Academy of Finance and then, must pass the foreign language proficiency test round, if they meet, they will start studying in the final year according to the University of Greenwich program. Students can choose to study in Vietnam or transfer to the UK to study abroad.
I have chosen to study my final year in Vietnam, but the entire program will be controlled by the University of Greenwich. 100% of documents and textbooks sent by teachers from England and the exam and test of students will be sent to England, then the results will be returned to each student. This is also the time that makes me face the most difficulties and challenges, when I have to approach, get used to learning, and at the same time, meet the strict standards of the UK. At the same time, I have to do a graduation thesis and an internship report to graduate from the Academy of Finance on time Mai Dung recounted.
Sharing about the secret to overcoming stressful study periods, the female student said that she often divides each task that needs to be done into small pieces, giving a deadline for completion. At that time, she will be more motivated, not depressed or lazy.
"Trying a little less study every day will not be rushed and, more importantly, I have more time to review the work I have done. Initial difficulties, foreign languages are not a barrier, because when I am determined, everything will follow the cycle I have set" - Mai Dung said.
The female student did not set a goal of achieving the title of valedictorian, but only tried as much as possible in 4 years of schooling.
In addition to being the valedictorian of the 2021-2025 school year, Mai Dung won the title of valedictorian of the DDP school year for two consecutive years from 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 and a second-place scholarship in 2023-2024. She also actively participated in scientific research activities and won the "Best Paper" award at the International Training Institute Student Science Conference in 2023.
Sharing about her future plans, the female student said that as soon as she graduated, she applied and was accepted to work at a large auditing corporation.
