Small hands light up recycled " collar"

Hundreds of young people of the Striped Project have started a journey to collect scrap paper, bottles, old books, old clothes to recycle, breathing new life into them.

When old things become miracles

That is the beautiful story of the event "Lom Day I 2025: Frunico" - opening the 11th season of the environmental project initiated by high school students in Hanoi.

Lom Di is not a strange name in the Hanoi environmental community. Over the past 10 seasons, this event has contributed to spreading the spirit of "no waste - recycling - environmentally friendly" to a large number of people, especially young people. In the 11th season this year, the event will continue to be held on June 14 and 15 at Thai Thinh Secondary School, with the inspiring theme "Frunico".

Inspired by two classic literary works Anne of Green Gables and The Secret Garden, this year's theme opens the image of a dreamy summer, where every old item is revived as beautiful memories are awakened. Every glass bottle, old newspaper or shoulder-width outfit has the opportunity to become a meaningful product, spreading the value of love to the community.

A festival of volunteer spirit

With a time frame from 8:30 to 17:30, "Pick up Here I 2025" not only organizes collection at the gathering point but also arranges additional collection stations at Richland Southern and Royal City buildings to increase people's access. The flexible form, combined with people proactively bringing items and members of the Organizing Committee moving to each house to collect them, has helped the event spread widely throughout Hanoi's residential areas.

The special thing about Pick Up Here is not only the collection stage but also the stage of reviving the product. Old books, bottles, and scrap paper will be classified and recreated by young people into meaningful gifts, sent to children in difficult circumstances during the upcoming Year of the Snake trip.

A young generation for the environment

Behind the project are nearly 180 students from many prestigious high schools in Hanoi. This young, enthusiastic team not only organizes a systematic event but also conveys the message that "each small action can create big changes" to the community.

Since the first season in June 2015, Striped Project has built the image of a pioneering, persistent recycling project with the goal of reducing paper waste and raising awareness of resource protection. Over the seasons, the project has organized a series of practical activities, gradually fostering the recycling habit among young people.

Sharing about the significance of the program, Head of the Organizing Committee Truong Yen Lan said: Striped Project hopes to not only help children have more learning conditions but also instil in the hearts of young people a love for the environment and the community. A small action today can inspire a long journey".

At the "Pick Up Here 2024" event, the project collected 3.6 tons of paper, nearly 2 tons of clothes, more than 655kg of books and 83.6kg of bottles - impressive figures reflecting the strong response from the community.
