Participating in the program "Multidimensional Mirror", singer Doan Trang recently shared interesting things with MC Minh Ngoc and the audience about her multicultural family life, especially during the Tet holiday.
According to singer Doan Trang, Tet in Sweden lasts from Christmas to New Year. During this time, shopping malls, restaurants, and entertainment areas are filled with a festive atmosphere like in Vietnam. Although the streets are bustling, Swedish people in particular and Europeans in general highly value family life.
They live very emotionally and cherish the moments of reunion, gathering with relatives in the last days of the old year and the beginning of the new year. At that time, the Swedes will put aside all work to gather with their family, in a warm wooden house with flickering candles, outside is the cold air.
That is why singer Doan Trang loves the Christmas and New Year atmosphere in Sweden. “Every Christmas and New Year, when my husband, Sol and I visit my paternal grandparents, the feeling is very different,” the owner of the song Socola expressed.
While Vietnamese people often give each other lucky money on New Year's Day, Swedish people often give each other practical and meaningful gifts and enjoy traditional dishes of this country such as meatballs. This dish is similar to Vietnamese meatballs but is prepared in a Western style when combined with butter and onions, served with fresh banh mi bought from the supermarket or baked at home.
In addition, Swedes also eat salmon, smoked meats and salads. One of the typical Swedish salads is beetroot salad. To make this salad, beetroot is chopped, mixed with dressing and spread on bread with salmon or bacon, creating a rich flavor of Western cuisine in general and Swedish in particular.
Swedish beetroot salad can be compared to pickled shallots - an indispensable dish on the traditional Vietnamese New Year. Also according to singer Doan Trang, a typical drink on the Swedish New Year is Glogg. Similar to red wine, Glogg is made from fermented fruit, very delicious to drink but also quite easy to get drunk.
The female singer also revealed to MC Minh Ngoc and the audience that her foreign husband also loves Vietnamese food. The owner of the song Toc Hat revealed: “One of the things that made my husband marry a Vietnamese woman and love Vietnam like his second homeland is Vietnamese cuisine. He really loves Vietnamese dishes like fresh spring roll. Then he started trying more flavorful dishes like sour soup, braised meat, and braised fish in clay pot.”
