In this project, male artist Huynh Kien An transforms into Mr. Lam - a successful middle-aged man with a warm family and a life of material things. However, behind that meticulous appearance was a closed, arrogant and distant person. He refused to help anyone and also did not hope to receive attention. For him, "adversity in difficulty" means "tsorry", while "helping" is just an unwanted responsibility.
Mr. Lam believes that people must be strong, independent and not dependent. But a sudden disaster turned everything upside down. In the moment of life and death, he had no one by his side: no phone number to call, no neighbors present. Finally, his wife had to ask for help from Mrs. Toi - who had been rejected by Mr. Lam. Mrs. Toi herself called for help to help him escape the death wish. After the incident, Mr. Lam proactively apologized, regained connection with the community and learned how to share.
"Neighborhood of a Village" is not only a portrait of an individual but also raises a big question: Can we really live alone? When standing between the lines of life and death, money and self-reliance cannot replace humanity. That is also the quiet but weighty message that the film wants to convey.
The highlight of the role is the way Huynh Kien An uses his eyes and silence to convey the character's psychology. Without much dialogue, he showed his coldness through cold looks and decisive negative gestures.
In particular, in the climax when Mr. Lam developed an illness, he delicately depicted his helplessness, panic and fear through breathing and eyes. When he recovered, his grateful gaze and gentle bowing of the head were enough for the audience to feel the change from deep within.
