"The Ancestors' House" has aired its first behind-the-scenes episode, giving the audience a panoramic view of the production process of the second film in Huynh Lap's career.
As the film's screenwriter and director, Huynh Lap revealed that the script idea came to him during the 2024 Lunar New Year and within just 1 month, Huynh Lap completed the entire story and complex character diagram of "The Ancestral House".
According to Huynh Lap, he had 8 different directions for the story "Ancestral House" and the official filming script was the 9th direction.
Bringing many elements of traditional culture and social issues into the film, Huynh Lap expressed his wish: "There are some young people who wonder what the meaning of burning incense for their ancestors is, or are bored with eating and organizing death anniversaries, that is the reason Lap created "Ancestral House".
The film helps Lap urge himself to have the duty to spread what he knows about ancestor worship and Vietnamese culture. What Lap knows, Lap will share in "Ancestral House".
The character My Tien, Gia Minh's younger sister, played by Phuong My Chi, marks the first time the female artist plays the leading role in a movie.
Huynh Lap spent a lot of time observing young people around him, especially generation Z, to portray My Tien as a Content Creator with a strong, independent personality.
However, there is always a big generation gap between My Tien and her family, differences in ideology and communication, leading to a loss of connection with relatives, especially her mother.
Through the emotional reunion between My Tien and her deceased brother, "The Ancestral House" will tell a story about the value of time, the meaning of family love and cultural beauty from the perspective of a young person returning to his homeland.
The movie "Ancestral House" is scheduled to be released in theaters nationwide on February 21, 2025.
