This is the next film project in the DC Cinema Universe (DCU) under the direction of James Gunn and Peter safran, expected to be released to global audiences on June 26, 2026.
Different from the bright, ideal image of Superman, Supergirl brings a cornering, rebellious and anti-heroic portrait of Kara Zor- El. The film promises to open up a new approach when focusing on exploiting the painful journey of maturity of the central female character, thereby reshaping the image of Supergirl on the big screen.
The story revolves around Kara Zor- El - a warrior from the planet Krypton, living on Earth under the name Kara Danvers and possessing the same power as Superman. When the world she is attached to is threatened by a cruel force, Kara is forced to leave Earth, embarking on a journey through distant, dangerous planets. On that path, she had to cooperate with an unexpected companion, while facing the feeling of lostness, loss and psychological wounds of the foreigner.
The teaser trailer opens with a humorous moment when Krypto appears in a messy room, before revealing the image of Kara Zor- El in a state of sleepiness, suggesting her messy lifestyle at the age of 23. As the trailer is gradually pushed up, the audience witnessed a Supergirl ready to fight to protect others and not hesitate to sacrifice for Krypto. Kara also frankly admitted the difference between herself and Superman: He always sees the good in everyone, but I only see the truth.
Sharing about the project, director cra cra cra Gillespie said that Supergirl is an anti-hero story with a lot of psychological depth. The character Kara in the film is not a perfect symbol, but carries many inner burdens after 18 years of witnessing her hometown Krypton gradually being destroyed.
James Gunn also emphasized that this version of Supergirl is not perfect, even chaotic. According to him, female superheroes on screen are often built too ideally, while Kara Zor- El is a character who is allowed to reveal flaws, improvisation and darkness - the core spirit of adapting the original film "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow".
Another notable highlight is the appearance of Jason Momoa as Lobo - the first wild reward hunter to appear on the big screen in DCU. CEO Peter safran affirmed that Momoa is pursuing this role resolutely.
This notable film blockbuster will be released in the summer of 2026.
