After its first week in theaters, "Minions & Monsters" (original title: Minions & Monsters) recorded many impressive achievements in both expertise and revenue.
According to the distributor, the film achieved 91% "freshness" on Rotten Tomatoes, becoming the highest-rated work in the entire universe of Minions. This achievement surpasses Despicable Me (2010) with 80%, Despicable Me 2 with 75% and Minions: The Rise of Gru with 70%.
In Vietnam, the film also created a positive effect when it grossed 80 billion VND (calculated from the screening to the afternoon of July 6), and also led the revenue from special screenings of Hollywood animated films and the revenue on the opening day of Hollywood films in the Vietnamese market. This is considered a favorable start for the work to extend the success of the Minions brand in the domestic box office.
Not only attracting attention for revenue, "Minions and the Monster" also received much praise from international critics. TheWrap assessed that this could be the brand's best film since the first Despicable Me, while RogerEbert. com commented that the work is an effective combination of children's humor and gratitude to film history.
Unlike previous parts, this time the story focuses entirely on the private journey of the Minions before meeting Gru. The film takes viewers back to Hollywood during the transition from silent films to famous films, while incorporating many details that evoke cinematic icons such as Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton or Harold Lloyd. This setting helps the work both retain the characteristic physical comedy of Minions and become a "love letter" to Hollywood film history.
Besides the nostalgic element, the film still promotes the brand's strength with a series of humorous situations, fast pace and familiar "life stories" of yellow characters. Interspersed with laughter is a message about friendship, loyalty and the journey to seek recognition in a different world.
