The film "The strange noise of the Devil" has content and message that far surpasses a common horror film. The project from the land of kimchi exploits fear from the most familiar things: Daily conversation, phone ringing, the whistling of a vacuum cleaner, or even the thunder of thunder.
These sounds, regardless of the range, are a part of urban life. But the horrifying thing about escaping from the rhythm of daily life begins when the above sounds lead the way for a terrifying, invisible yet ever-hiding object.
The main character Ju Young (played by Lee Sun Bin) is a deaf woman, surrounded every day by "crush" of incomplete sounds from hearing aids.
After her younger sister Ju Hee disappears in a meaningless manner, she is also caught up in a whirlwind of strange noises that she cannot hear clearly, but their terrifying presence is so roible that it vibrates every rhythm.
The helplessness of the female lead in the face of inexorable noise highlights a deep sense of anxiety and fear that anyone living in urban space can sympathize with, face every day but has a different way of solving: One is to ignore to live, two is to give up and move elsewhere, and three is to be brave enough to learn about the industry. Ju Young chose the third option, but is it really wise?
In addition to the dramatic storytelling, Noise also scored points with Korean audiences thanks to exploiting very ordinary and modern fears - the noise between the floors of apartments.
Through the vision of director Kim Soo Jin, viewers will see the pain of loss and helplessness when facing forces beyond control through the character Ju Young. The noise was just a person lurking in the dark, but more frightening was the human heart and the "ghost" in her own soul, which had eroded and caused the brotherhood of both of them to break down more and more. Finding Ju Hee is Ju Young's way of making amends, but it is also the "medicine" that the female lead needs to find herself and the happiness that both of them deserve.
The movie "The noise of the strange Devil" is currently showing in Vietnamese theaters.
