The film “The Bride of a Noble Family” tells the story of Tu Lac (Uyen An) and her family’s plan to change their lives after enduring poverty for three generations. Tu Lac approaches Bao Hoang (Samuel An) - CEO of Nguyen Vu Medical Group - under the guise of a noble lady to create a love affair and then a marriage of equal social status.
Tu Lac drags his whole family into this plan, creating many humorous and awkward situations. Until they encounter difficult obstacles including Mrs. Phuong (Thu Trang) - Bao Hoang's mother and Mrs. Ky's family (Hong Van) - the nouveau riche who are also eyeing Mrs. Phuong's family's money.
In this approach of Vu Ngoc Dang with "The Rich Bride", the issue of social status and the difference between the finish line/starting line are pushed to the forefront.
In the film, there is no clear distinction between good and bad people. The twist at the end of the film reveals the reason why Mrs. Phuong always looks down on the poor, making the audience feel sad and sympathetic. This creates the film's advantage that no one is completely right or completely wrong.
According to the director and producer's previous sharing, there are three classes in the film: Old rich - newly rich - old poor. The life prisms of the representatives of these three classes are completely different. When one side clings to the old value framework and refuses to change, the other side defies everything to change their fate.
Tu Lac's family was not wrong in trying to change their lives. At the same time, they believed that rich people, whether "new rich" or "old money", would never understand their hardships, so it was okay for them to take a little money from them, forgetting that the true value of money lies in labor.
But Mrs. Phuong and Bao Hoang's family showed suffocation when clinging to old values, gradually turning it into a suffocating cage for themselves.
The contrast between the two perspectives puts Tu Lac and Bao Hoang in a dilemma, wavering in their minds between choosing fairy tale love or accepting stereotypical reality, forgetting that what they need, in fact, is a little courage to be able to act differently, to step towards each other.
Vu Ngoc Dang chose an open ending so that the audience can freely infer what they want about the love between the prince and Cinderella in the harsh reality.
The film "The Bride of a Rich Family" is a new experiment by director Vu Ngoc Dang when exploiting the comedy genre but still maintaining his own personality with his familiar perspective on women, perfect in an imperfect way, but also full of love, watching them gradually mature in life.
