On August 25, Phuong My Chi announced a new studio album called "Dân chơi dân ca", continuing to collaborate with the production group DTAP.
The project marks Phuong My Chi's return after nearly three years since her debut album "Co bay Universe". If the previous product used Vietnamese literature as the main material, the new album expands the space from North to South, connecting music with the land, nature, people and the female singer's growth process.
The name "Folk Player" is explained by the crew as not referring to a lifestyle. "Folk Player" expresses the bold and proactive attitude of young people when approaching culture; at the same time, it can be understood as people "playing" together and continuing folk songs in their own way.
A notable point of the project is the appearance of a cultural and professional advisory council. The council is chaired by Dr. Luong Thi Thu Huong, in charge of views on philosophy, religion and culture.
The members also include Dr., People's Artist Bach Tuyet, advisor on Cai Luong and Tuong Co; People's Artist Nguyen Thi Lich, in charge of Phu Tho Xoan singing; Meritorious Artist Sam Thi Xanh, in charge of Thai folk songs and Xoe; People's Artist Thanh Ngoan, advisor on Xam singing; Meritorious Artist Hoang Trong Cuong, advisor on Hue folk songs.
Master Thach Thi Ut Linh and Master Kim Chanh Thon participate in consulting on Khmer culture in the South. Master Hoang Phuong Thao takes on the role of coordinator and secretary of the council.
According to the crew, the advisors not only refer to information but also participate in learning, comparing the origin and choosing materials to put into music. This approach aims to limit the use of traditional elements such as decoration, lack of context or misleading meaning.
To implement the project, Phuong My Chi and colleagues went to Vinh Long, An Giang and many localities, meeting with communities that are practicing and preserving traditional culture. The female singer said that she wants to turn her love for culture into specific activities, instead of just expressing it through music products.
On October 3rd, Phuong My Chi is expected to organize the music night "Folk Players" in Ho Chi Minh City. This is the first ticket-selling night of the female singer. Part of the profit is expected to be allocated to activities to support the maintenance and development of cultural spaces in localities that she and her team have explored.
