Just a few weeks after the movie Cam was released, Thuy Diem continued to have another film released - "Ba gia di bui" with great artistic value by director Tran Chi Thanh. This is the first film to use the State budget through bidding. The movie "Ba gia di bui" is adapted from the short story of the same name by writer Nguyen Ngoc Tu, written by director Phi Tien Son.
Set in the Mekong Delta, the story is about Mrs. Nam (played by Meritorious Artist Minh Trang) - an old mother with many children, but when the children grow up, they all have their own lives, making the mother feel lonely and sad.
In the film, Thuy Diem plays Ut Tha - the youngest daughter who lives next to her mother, taking on the task of taking care of her mother when she gets old. Although she loves her mother very much, Ut Tha still does not understand what her mother needs or wants, until she realizes her mother's feelings and wishes, then Mrs. Nam has breathed her last, no longer in this world.
The film "The Old Lady" received a certificate of merit in the category of Best Feature Film at the 2024 Golden Kite Awards, and Thuy Diem also received a nomination for Best Actress for her role as Ut Tha in the film.
Luong The Thanh's wife said that the character Ut Tha made mistakes in the way he loved his mother and helped Thuy Diem learn her own lessons: "Ut Tha made those mistakes for me so that I could correct them in real life while my parents were still with me. I also hope that when the movie Ba Gia Di Bui is widely shown, the audience will see it, look at Ba Nam's 4 children and realize their own shortcomings in taking care of and loving their parents, especially those who are already old."
Talking about the filming process, Thuy Diem said that she was "like a fish in water" when returning to her home region in the Western context: "Many people lovingly gave me the name "Southern TV drama rating queen", so when filming a movie in the West, I really felt like returning home. In 2024, I went North with the movie Heart Rescue Station produced by VFC, then went to the Central region to film Cam, and ended with "Ba gia di bui" in the beloved Mekong Delta. I feel like I had a fulfilling year when I was able to do many new things in my career, something I am proud of."
