Born in An Nhon Tay commune, Cu Chi district, artist Thy Nhung's love for Cai Luong originated from her childhood days when she lived next to a theater in An Nhon Tay.
The journey to pursue Cai Luong art has never been easy.Thy Nhung admits that she is lucky to have the opportunity and conditions to develop, but has faced many difficulties.
10 years ago, the turmoil in her family life distracted her, making her unable to devote herself completely to the stage: "That was the worst time for me.For a while, I did not take care of my love for the stage."
However, her strong love for Cai Luong helped her overcome it, and she was determined to live her life for art.
Although Cai Luong theaters are not as popular as before, Thy Nhung is still steadfast in her choice. For her, Cai Luong is not only a passion, but also the breath of life.
She shared: “Thy Nhung considers the art of cai luong as her breath. Without it, I feel my life is no longer interesting or meaningful.”
In addition to performing, she expanded into music and studied directing with the hope of being able to infiltrate programs, especially still being able to make a living from her profession.
After more than 20 years on stage, Thy Nhung transformed into many characters, each role leaving a special mark.
The role of Trinh in the excerpt "Ben nuoc Ngu Bo" by author Vo Tu Uyen helped her shine at the "Chuong vang vong co" contest in 2014, marking a major turning point in her career.
In 2022, she won the championship of the "Tram nam anh Viet" contest organized by Vinh Long Television Station.
Thy Nhung's success cannot be without the dedicated guidance of her teachers. From teacher Bay Lap in her hometown of Cu Chi to two artists Hoai Thanh and Do Quyen in Ho Chi Minh City, who not only taught her the profession but also were important supports in the days when she was just starting out in the profession."Without teachers, there would be no Thy Nhung today," she affirmed.
Looking to the future, Thy Nhung is preparing to perform new and unique cai luong performances to bring this art form closer to young audiences.
"I always want and always try to spread the message of justice to young people," she said.
