The aerial scene in the movie "Dision: impossible - The Last recorded Journal" begins when the villain Gabriel (Esai Morales) flies away on a classic double-decker Stearman winged aircraft, forcing Ethan to drive a second one to chase, jump to Gabriel's belly and climb to the wing to fight.
In real life, this scene was filmed at an altitude of 3,000 meters above sea level, on a Stearman aircraft flying at a speed of more than 200 km/h. In South Africa amidst the harsh nature of Drakensberg, Tom Cruise faces every challenge: strong winds like a storm, a pilot deliberately controlling a plane to swerve to crash him, the sudden appearance of a local age group, and a completely obscured view as the plane crosses the dense clouds.
At unimaginable altitude, in a wind lane that hit his face straight at 274 km/h - equivalent to a super typhoon hitting his body, Cruise did not wear a helmet, did not use a rope, did not have a cascadeur to replace him, and still had to speak for the correct scenario.
When Cruise was standing on the wing, the only way to communicate was by hand signals. Director McQuarrie had to fly a helicopter close to Tom, open the door, step outside to personally direct Tom Cruise. He shared about the harsh environment at an altitude of 3000 meters: When you leave the cockpit, it feels like stepping into another planet. The wind hit your face as you suffocated. Tom only had 12 minutes to perform on the wing.
The 62-year-old actor spent more than 500 hours practicing, including dozens of sessions in a high-performance wind room, where he learned how to control each facial movement and breathing in extreme air pressure. During the training, Cruise fainted due to lack of oxygen and the impact of the G force. Aviation experts warn that just a small reflection deviation or confusion in the flow of gas can lead to loss of control, even death.
The crew spent many years planning and preparing this scene for 4 and a half months. This required Cruise and his team to test fly hundreds of times with four 1940 Stearman aircraft completely reconstructed from the engine, wing structure to aerodynamics.
The film "Dision: impassible - The Last profession" will premiere in Vietnam from May 30, 2025. Previously, the work will have a special screening on the 28th - 29th of May 2025.
