Northern - Central - Southern folk paintings on display in Da Nang

On the afternoon of November 22, the Da Nang Fine Arts Museum organized the exhibition "Vietnamese Folk Paintings" with artifacts from the Northern - Central - Southern folk painting genres.

The exhibition “Vietnamese Folk Paintings” aims to honor the spiritual and cultural values ​​of the Vietnamese ethnic community. Thereby contributing to the preservation and promotion of the nation’s precious traditional folk art heritage, while introducing and promoting the Museum’s folk painting collection to the people and visitors.

Vietnamese folk paintings have a long history and play an important role in the cultural and spiritual life of the Vietnamese people. They were created, inherited and developed by the working classes of Vietnam.

This exhibition introduces to the public 100 artifacts of Vietnamese folk paintings from all three regions of the North - Central - South such as: Dong Ho, Hang Trong, Kim Hoang, Lang Sinh, Hue Glass paintings, Southern glass paintings, Khmer glass paintings, folk lacquer paintings, fabric wrapping paintings...

The artifacts include paintings and some woodblocks selected from a collection of 341 artifacts donated by Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Hoa (Hanoi) and artisans to the Da Nang Museum of Fine Arts from 2022 to 2024.

With rich and vivid content, the paintings all express the people's eternal aspirations for a good life, peace, prosperity and happiness. Each painting has its own unique style of expression, natural and brilliant colors, skillful carvings and drawings imbued with national identity.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the exhibition, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Hoa - a collector who donated the artifacts - shared that the Da Nang Fine Arts Museum had arranged the paintings very respectfully and had carefully annotated each work when displayed here.

“I hope that all residents and visitors to the exhibition can appreciate and promote the heritage that Da Nang City has displayed, both in terms of folk paintings and other types of heritage,” said Ms. Hoa.

In conjunction with the exhibition opening program, the Da Nang Fine Arts Museum organized an experience activity of printing Sinh Village folk paintings for delegates, guests, and the public attending the exhibition opening ceremony.
