The workshop is one of the important activities within the framework of Project 8 under the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas for the 2021-2030 period.
The workshop was organized to promote gender equality and address urgent social issues for ethnic minority and mountainous women and children.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hien, Vice President of the Vietnam Women's Union, said: After nearly 3 years of implementation, the Project has achieved many outstanding results.

The report for the first 6 months of 2024 of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union affirmed that many core targets of Project 8 have been achieved and exceeded the plan set for the 2021-2025 period.
However, ethnic minority women and children still face many difficulties such as limited access to education, health care, employment and public services. This workshop aims to clearly identify urgent issues and propose effective solutions for the next stage, helping to improve the quality of life and rights of women and children in these difficult areas.

In his opening remarks, Associate Professor Dr. Tran Quang Tien shared: The Organizing Committee of the Conference received 70 articles. After an independent selection and review process, the Organizing Committee selected 39 academic articles and practical articles sharing experiences to be published in the Conference proceedings.

Thereby, the full-text articles have discovered urgent social issues for women and children in ethnic minority and mountainous areas today in the Central Highlands region in many areas such as economy, poverty reduction, health care, marriage and family, cultural education, economics, women's participation in leadership and management. Some urgent issues were concluded such as bad customs, early marriage, consanguineous marriage, children dropping out of school early, violence and gender bias against women and children, quality of life, access to digital transformation.
The workshop was organized to more clearly identify the urgent issues that still exist, which are barriers to the development of women and children; propose tasks and effective intervention solutions of Project 8 in the remaining time to strive to achieve the goals of phase 1; at the same time, continue to review and identify urgent social issues for women and children in ethnic minority and mountainous areas that need to be resolved in the coming time to propose for the next phase (2026-2030), contributing to further promoting gender equality in ethnic minority and mountainous areas.
After listening to presentations from experts, delegates divided into groups to discuss and share more about the project implementation results and the actual characteristics of each locality and draw out the contents that need to continue to focus on solving.
The workshop also agreed on the need to continue implementing and expanding sustainable livelihood support models, focusing on improving digital capacity for women and developing specialized education programs for children in ethnic minority areas. At the same time, support policies need to be implemented flexibly and appropriately to the actual conditions of each region, ensuring feasibility and effectiveness.
