On July 10, Hanoi Children's Hospital informed that the hospital had just saved a 26-month-old girl after mistakenly taking an effective mushroom repellent.
Doctor Do Thi Thuy Nga - Deputy Director of Hanoi Children's Hospital said that a child patient was admitted to the emergency room suspected of mistakenly taking an effective mushroom repellent on July 5. Relatives discovered the child holding a medicine package with white sticks around his mouth. Realizing unusual signs, the family quickly gave first aid and took the child to the nearest medical facility.
The packaging is identified as an effective fungicide containing the active ingredient Hexaconazole - a liquid biological drug, packaged in small packages like jelly, which can easily confuse children with food.
At the local hospital, the child was washed in the stomach and drinked activated charcoal to limit the absorption of toxic substances, then transferred to Hanoi Children's Hospital. Here, the child patient was monitored at the Emergency, Transfusion and Exorcism Department to increase toxic excretion. Intensive tests on heart and nerve function were performed urgently.
After 3 days of active treatment, the patient's health was completely stable, the test results were within normal limits, no damage to the heart or nervous system was recorded. The child has now played well, eaten well and slept well and has been discharged from the hospital.
"Hexaconazole is a biological drug that can cause dangerous poisoning if children take it in large doses. Symptoms of poisoning include: Nausea, nausea, abdominal pain; Heart muscle damage; Neuro-venisoning. There is currently no specific detox drug for Hexaconazole, treatment mainly relies on handling symptoms and increasing the excretion of toxins from the body as soon as possible," added Dr. Do Thi Thuy Nga.
