On April 13, 2025, P.C.A in Tu Son, Bac Ninh was hospitalized in critical condition: severe respiratory failure, SpO2 only 80%, heart rate 200 times/minute, purple again. The child had a history of myocardial disease, chronic heart failure, which worsened the condition. The diagnosis showed that the child was infected with RSV virus, respiratory damage, heart shock, acute renal failure and severe metabolic failure (pH=7.1). Despite having taken a ventilator and taken vasopressors, the disease did not improve.
Faced with the risk of death, the duty station held an emergency consultation and decided to intervene with continuous blood filtration. After 12 hours of blood filtration, the blood dynamism improved significantly, and kidney function returned. After 48 hours, the heart functioned stably, and the child was removed from the endotracheal tube after 6 days of treatment.
This is a critical case, if not intervened promptly, the chance of survival is almost zero - MSc. Dr. Le Manh Truong, the doctor in charge of treatment, shared.
bronchial tieuitis caused by RSV is common, but in children with chronic heart disease, it progresses very quickly and is unpredictable.
