On February 25, Tu Du Hospital said that the unit had just performed a safe cesarean section for pregnant woman N.T. T. T (27 years old, Ho Chi Minh City) - the 12th case to have successfully undergone fetal heart intervention.
The baby boy weighed 3.2 kg, was born healthy at week 39 of pregnancy. Immediately after birth, the child was performed a heart-lung ultrasound, the results recorded stable heart and respiratory functions, and good adaptation to extrauterine circulation.
The fetus was previously diagnosed with severe pulmonary valve stenosis, accompanied by progressive right ventricular hypoplasia - a complex form of congenital heart disease, with a high risk of developing into a one-ventricular heart after birth if not intervened in time.
Notably, this is the first fetal heart intervention case deployed after the Ministry of Health officially approved and issued a technical list for this field.
According to Tu Du Hospital, the healthy cry of the baby on February 25th is not only the joy of the family but also a milestone for the sustainable development of fetal heart intervention techniques in Vietnam - where decisions based on evidence, accurate techniques and inter-specialized coordination are gradually expanding the limits of prenatal treatment.
