Da Nang - Da Nang Hospital has successfully deployed the two-port endoscopic spinal surgery (UBE) technique.

On March 31, Da Nang Hospital announced that it had just successfully operated on patient Ngo Thi H.N. (81 years old, residing in Chien Dan commune, Da Nang city) suffering from severe disc herniation on the background of hypertension and diabetes.

Previously, Ms. N. was hospitalized in a state of severe back pain, the pain spread down to her left leg, making it impossible for her to walk on her own, greatly affecting daily life. Although she has undergone many methods of medical treatment, functional rehabilitation and traditional medicine in many places, her condition has not improved.

Through examination and MRI results, doctors of the Department of Neurosurgery recorded that the patient had left L5S1 herniated disc severely compressing the S1 nerve root. Because the patient was old and had many complex underlying diseases, doctors consulted and decided to perform the two-port endoscopic spinal endoscopy (UBE) technique to relieve nerve root compression for the old woman.

Only 24 hours after surgery, Ms. N.'s pain was significantly reduced, she could move gently and walk on her own. After 3 days of monitoring, her health stabilized and she was discharged from the hospital.

According to Dr. Le Huu Tri - Deputy Head of Neurosurgery Department (Da Nang Hospital), endoscopic spinal surgery with two portals (UBE) is indicated in many diseases such as herniated discs; neck stenosis on one or both sides; central spinal stenosis; spinal stenosis due to mild vertebral slippage (grade I-II).

In addition, this technique is also applied to cases of thickening or calcification of yellow ligaments, cases that require exposing the entire spinal canal such as epidural abscess or tumors in the epidural.
