On the afternoon of August 24, the Vietnam Family Planning Association, together with representatives of Bayer Vietnam and Pharmacity, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on coordinating the implementation of communication activities in the field of reproductive health and family planning for the period 2026–2030.
Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen said: Reproductive health plays an important role in the comprehensive development of each individual, especially adolescents and youth - the core force that determines the future and quality of national human resources.
According to the Deputy Minister, in recent years, Vietnam has achieved many positive results in reproductive health care and family planning. However, we are still facing many challenges.
The knowledge and skills of a part of young people about reproductive health and contraception are still limited; access to scientific and accurate information and friendly services does not fully meet practical needs.
Unsafe sex, unwanted pregnancy, abortion and the risk of sexually transmitted diseases are still issues that need to be further addressed" - the Deputy Minister said.
The Deputy Minister said that these requirements and challenges require the joint efforts of state management agencies, social organizations, businesses and the entire community, in order to provide people, especially the young generation, with scientific, accurate, appropriate and accessible knowledge; thereby supporting each individual and each family to proactively take care of their health, prepare well for building a family and exercising their rights and responsibilities in reproductive health care.
Cooperation activities will be implemented on the basis of fully complying with the provisions of Vietnamese law, ensuring science, objectivity, transparency, taking the interests of the community and people as the center; and not aimed at promoting or prioritizing any specific products" - he emphasized.
According to the Department of Mothers and Children, in 2025, teenage pregnancy accounted for about 2.5% of the total number of pregnant women nationwide.
The birth rate in this age group decreased from 34.57‰ in 2024 to 32.27‰ in 2025. Along with that, the abortion rate among adolescents also decreased from 1.77% to 1.43%, reflecting the effectiveness of contraceptive prevention measures.
Nationwide, the number of abortions has decreased sharply in the past decade and is currently maintained at about 100,000 cases per year, with a abortion rate of less than 10 cases per 100 births.
