Opportunities for cooperation in improving health care for the elderly

The working session between the JICA (Japan) delegation and Hospital 199 in Da Nang opened up opportunities for cooperation in health care for the elderly.

Information from Hospital 199 of the Ministry of Public Security, on the afternoon of February 28, 2025, a delegation of JICA officers led by Mr. Shintaro Nakamura - Senior Advisor on Social Security, JICA (Japan) and its staff had a working session with Hospital 199 on the field of elderly health care.

Before entering the official working session, the JICA delegation visited the field to learn about the current situation of traditional medicine development, rehabilitation, and elderly care at the Departments of Traditional Medicine, Rehabilitation - Occupational Diseases, Daycaer Center of Hospital 199. Therefore, the two working groups had an open and sincere exchange of experiences and discussions on areas of mutual concern, such as elderly care and human resource training.

Dr. Quach Huu Trung - Director of the Hospital highly appreciated the attention and support of the JICA organization in human resource training programs on elderly care. At the same time, he emphasized the importance of international cooperation in the integration period, especially with Japan's JICA partner in the field of long-term care for the elderly in Vietnam in general, and Hospital 199 in particular.

The establishment of elderly care centers in Da Nang contributes to meeting the increasing demand for health care of the community in the context of rapid population aging. As for the Daycare Center of Hospital 199 of the Ministry of Public Security, established on October 2021, although still young, this place is a trusted address for the community in the field of elderly health care" - Dr. Vo Thi Hong Huong - Deputy Director of Hospital 199 added.

Mr. Shintaro Nakamura - Senior Advisor on Social Security, JICA Japan expressed his impression of the modern facilities, equipment, and operating mechanisms of the Daycare Center both in-house and in the community... All have unity, consensus, innovation, and creativity to bring practical benefits to the people. Therefore, Mr. Shintaro Nakamura said that he will always monitor, support, and share experiences to accompany the Hospital in carrying out the mission of caring for, protecting and improving the health of local people, especially the elderly.

The visit and working session is an opportunity for Hospital 199 and JICA to open up new opportunities in the cooperative relationship in training to improve medical human resources and health care for the elderly at the Hospital in particular, Da Nang city and the Central Highlands region in general.
