According to the family, at around 9am on December 21, while working at home, the patient was unfortunately shot in the head with a wooden nail gun.
After the accident, the family took the patient to the Emergency Department of the 108 Central Military Hospital. The patient was admitted to the hospital in a conscious state, with a head wound bleeding profusely, severe pain in the head, no weakness in the limbs, and a CT scan of the brain showing a metal foreign body.
After completing the necessary tests, the patient was urgently operated on by the medical team and doctors of the Neurosurgery Department to successfully remove the foreign body, a 5cm long nail, from his head. After the surgery, the patient continued to be resuscitated and treated.
Currently, the patient's condition is stable, but active treatment is still needed to prevent the risk of brain infection, meningitis, and brain abscess because the foreign object is a long, sharp nail that has penetrated deep into the brain parenchyma, so the risk of infection is very high.
Doctor Do Khac Hau, Department of Neurosurgery, recommends that people need to be careful to ensure a safe working environment while working, producing, and using appropriate labor protection equipment.
When a work accident occurs, first aid must be given immediately and the patient taken to a reputable medical facility for timely treatment. Never attempt to remove foreign objects from the wound on your own as this can be dangerous for the patient.
