Pediatric Song A L, 3 years old, from Phu Yen, Son La. Children's family said, about two weeks ago, she bathed in the stream with her brother. After a few days, the baby appears coughing in batches, accompanied by fresh blood, hoarseness, wheezing and feeling like a strange object in the throat. Shortly thereafter, the family took the baby to the local health facility, where the doctor suspected that there was an object in the airway and transferred him to the Central Ear Nose Hospital to continue treatment.
Doctor Nguyen Thi Hue - Department of plastic surgery (Central Ophthalmic Hospital) said: the child was admitted to the hospital with a cough but no difficulty breathing and no fever. After examination, the doctors determined that there was a foreign object, a live stream slug about 5cm long, that was clinging to the trachea. Doctors performed anesthesia and endoscopy of the hard ear to remove the foreign object from the patient's airway.
Doctor Hue added that the foreign object is a live stream lychee that can suck blood and damage the respiratory tract. This can stimulate secretions in the respiratory tract, creating conditions for bacteria to grow and cause infections, bronchitis or pneumonia. If the foreign object moves deep into the lungs, it can cause lung blockage or recurrent pneumonia. Conversely, if it moves up your nose, the foreign object can cause a periodic bleeding from your nose.
In another case, patient Trieu A C., 12 years old, from Van Chan, Yen Bai, was also hospitalized with symptoms of phlegm and congestion with repeated blood. Before that, the child also took a bath and drank water from the stream. After examination and endoscopy of the tracheal tract, the doctors determined that there was a foreign object lying in the airway and proceeded to remove the foreign object.
MSc. Dr. Do Van Tam, the doctor directly treating patient Trieu A C, warned that foreign objects in the airways, especially living foreign objects, if not detected and treated promptly, can cause many dangerous complications. When newly entering the body,ia is often small in size but will grow rapidly in the human body, can cause airway obstruction, leading to suffocation and even death if not treated promptly.
Doctor Tam also recommends that parents should avoid letting their children bathe in streams, ponds, lakes, rivers, streams and absolutely not let their children drink water from the stream that has not yet boiled. If you let your child swim, choose swimming pools with treated water and always have an adult supervision. When children have signs such as a bleeding nose, complaining, slurred speech, wheezing, difficulty breathing, or feeling a strange animal crawling in their nose and throat, parents should take their children to a reputable medical facility for timely examination and treatment to avoid serious complications later.
Foreign objects living in the body, especially streamers, are not only a health threat but also a reminder of the need to use clean water and protect children from potential risks from the natural environment.
