Here is a share from Dr. Apoorva Shah, founder of RichFeel Trichology Center in India about lying on pillows causing hair loss:
- Pillows or pillowcases, especially those made of cotton, tend to absorb natural moisture, causing hair breakage and loss. Additionally, movements during sleep cause hair that is lacking in moisture to rub against the cotton fibers of the pillow, causing hair breakage.
- For curly and damaged hair, more breakage will occur when lying on the pillow. In addition, it can form knots in the hair, which are difficult to untangle and cause a lot of breakage when brushing.
So, switch to a silk or satin pillowcase instead of a cotton one, as silk retains more moisture and the smooth surface of silk allows hair to slide easily, reducing friction and damage and breakage. Also, avoid going to bed with wet hair, as that is when hair is at its weakest and most susceptible to breakage.
Additionally, changing your pillowcases regularly can help prevent hair loss and each time you change your pillowcases, it also helps remove bacteria build-up.
