Zoning and controlling rabies in a commune in Gia Lai

Gia Lai - After a rabid dog bit people in Ya Hoi commune, functional forces urgently cordoned off and suppressed the epidemic.

On July 18, information from Ya Hoi Commune People's Committee, Gia Lai province said that the Provincial Sub-Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine in coordination with the Kong Chro Commune Public Service Center is urgently vaccinating rabies for dogs and cats in Dak Hway 2 village to prevent the risk of disease outbreaks and spread.

Previously, on July 11, Ya Hoi Commune People's Committee received information that a becgie crossbred dog suspected of having rabies had bitten Mr. Le Duc Bay (born in 1963, residing in Phu An village), causing injury to his right hand, requiring 5 stitches.

The victim is being instructed on rabies prevention treatment at Gia Lai Provincial Central General Hospital.

According to local people's reflection, before the incident, the dog appeared in the Dak Hway 2 village area, showing signs of oozing a lot of saliva, being aggressive and biting about 10 dogs of people in the village.

Among these, 8 were dead and buried by the people themselves; 2 are still alive and are being isolated and monitored. If there are any unusual signs, people will report to the local authorities for handling according to regulations.

The dog suspected of having rabies was also beaten to death and buried by people.

The Provincial Sub-Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine has coordinated with the People's Committee of Ya Hoi commune, the Health Station and the Kong Chro Commune Public Service Center to organize the zoning of the area where the incident occurred, requesting people to keep dogs and cats in captivity to facilitate disease monitoring and supervision.

At the same time, forces strengthen propaganda to make people clearly aware of the danger of rabies, the route of transmission, clinical symptoms and disease prevention measures; recommend that people bitten by dogs and cats should go to medical facilities as soon as possible for advice and timely preventive treatment.
