Previously, at around 7:00 a.m. on June 17, Ngoc Vung Border Guard Station received a report from Mr. Pham Van Thanh - crew member of the HP-90883-TS fishing boat, captained by Mr. Le Van Phuc (born in 1975, residing in Lap Le commune, Thuy Nguyen district, Hai Phong city).
According to initial information, while operating at sea, the fishing boat suddenly encountered a whirlwind, had a broken engine, drifted and ran aground at the rock beach in Ha Mai island area, in the waters of Ngoc Vung commune, Van Don district.
Immediately after receiving the information, Ngoc Vung Border Guard Station sent a team of 500CV motorboats along with 6 officers and soldiers directly commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Trung Kien - Deputy Station Chief, to quickly and locally approach the scene.

The unit coordinated with the 170th Naval Brigade on duty in the Ha Mai area to carry out rescue work.
At around 10:30 a.m. the same day, the rescue team reached the fishing boat in distress. There were nine crew members on board, all of whom were safe and wearing life jackets.
However, due to a strong impact on the rock, some ship's holds were broken, causing seawater to overflow. The forces quickly deployed water pumping, closed leaks, temporarily repaired ship engines, and provided food, drinking water and medical assistance to the crew members.
At 12:15 on the same day, fishing boat HP-90883-TS was taken out of the stranded location and towed to the Ha Mai Border Control Station (under Ngoc Vung Border Guard Station) for further repair and repair.
