Ms. D.T.L (60 years old, Tay ethnic group, Lang Son province) was admitted to the General Internal Medicine Department - Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases in a state of scaly skin, itchy all over the body, with mild fever, cracked limbs, blisters and swollen legs.
Previously, the patient had a persistent itching and self-treated at home with unclear medicine for 10 days. The severe itching made her imagine having " cow's milk" on her skin, thereby finding cigarettes and herbal medicine to apply directly to the affected area. However, the condition not only did not improve but also became worse.
Upon admission, the patient was recorded with redness, scabies, cracking, fever and itching all over his body.
Doctor Phan Thi Thanh Hoa, who directly treated the patient, said: The patient was screened for parasitic diseases such as eel worms, round worms, worms that hit dogs and cats, large and small liver failure, porkline failure, dog line failure... The results showed that the patient had an allergic drug of unknown type on the basis of local dermatitis.
After 5 days of combined treatment between the two specialties of Allergy - Immunology and Dermatology, the patient's condition improved significantly: no fever, reduced redness, itchy rashes disappeared and the skin no longer had scaly patches.
Doctor Hoa shares that allergies can be related to many types of foreign objects, including the possibility of parasitic involvement. Some symptoms of drug allergy are easily mistaken for atopic dermatitis, so patients should not arbitrarily use medicine or apply any leaves, herbal medicine, or chemicals to the skin when damage appears. Aresinitis is a chronic disease but can be completely controlled if treatment and follow the correct specialist.
From the case of patient L, Dr. Hoa recommends: When signs such as itching, redness, skin peeling, cracking or rash appear, people need to go to the doctor early to be diagnosed correctly and treated promptly. Self-treatment at home can cause widespread skin damage, causing serious infections and allergies, and prolong the treatment time.
