Doctors of the Obstetrics Department, Central Tropical Diseases Hospital, have just successfully resuscitated patient N.T.X (36 years old, Hanoi) who was admitted to the hospital in a state of shock and severe blood loss after abortion with medicine.
According to the patient's account, she was unintentionally pregnant for about 5 weeks. After being examined at a private medical facility, she had an ultrasound and a prescription for abortion with medication. After taking the medicine, she started to have abdominal pain and bleed a lot. Initially, the amount of blood was only at the level of sanitary napkin seepage, but then increased rapidly, forcing her to use diapers. However, blood still flowed profusely, and in just a few minutes it was soaked, clumped into large lumps and continuously spilled out.
“Blood flowed so much that I felt like I was going to the toilet, uncontrollable,” the obsessed patient recounted.
Only a few hours later, she fell into a state of exhaustion, exhaustion, dizziness, sweating profusely, cold hands and feet, nausea, loose stool diarrhea and many times fainted in the toilet. No longer strong enough to stand up, she could only sit on the floor, call her child and ask relatives to take her to the emergency room.
When admitted to the hospital, the patient was in a typical blood loss shock condition: pale skin, exhaustion, blood pressure dropped to 80/50 mmHg, mild shortness of breath, accompanied by incontinence in urination. Doctors immediately performed intensive resuscitation, emergency blood transfusion, and at the same time aspirated the uterine cavity to remove the remaining fetal tissue - the cause of uterine incontinence, leading to prolonged hemorrhage and inability to stop the bleeding.
After intervention, the patient's hemorrhagic condition gradually stabilized, the amount of blood lost was controlled, and the patient passed the dangerous episode.
According to Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha - Head of Obstetrics Department, Central Tropical Diseases Hospital, this is a serious hemorrhagic case due to drug abortion.
Abortion pills detach the fetus from the uterine wall. If the fetal tissue is not completely expelled or the uterus contracts poorly, blood can flow profusely, prolongedly and quickly leading to blood loss shock. Patients subjectively monitor at home and easily miss the'golden time' for emergency care," said Dr. Ha.
Doctors also warn that if hospitalized late, hemorrhage can progress to blood clotting disorders, directly threatening the patient's life. Drug abortion is only safe when performed and monitored at licensed medical facilities with full emergency equipment. After using the medicine, patients need to follow instructions, closely monitor the amount of blood released and go to the hospital immediately if abnormal signs such as severe abdominal pain, massive bleeding, fatigue, dizziness appear.
In this case, the patient is young and has no underlying disease, so the tolerance is good. If it is an elderly person, with anemia or underlying disease, the risk of death will be much higher," Dr. Ha emphasized.
It's a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit.
