Shorten the treatment distance for lung cancer patients

On November 11, FV Hospital organized a workshop on "Comprehensive screening, diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer", helping to increase the ability to detect and treat patients.

According to GLOBOCAN 2022 data, the rate of lung cancer is the 1st (accounting for 12.4%) among all types of cancer, and the mortality rate of 18.7% is also the highest.

The reason is that patients often discover the disease at a late stage, when there is almost no chance of surgery.

MSc. Dr. Luong Ngoc Trung - Head of Thoracic and Vascular Surgery Department, FV Hospital said that among patients who are diagnosed with the disease, only 25% of cases can be indicated for surgery to treat the disease completely. This is a big burden for clinicians.

At this time, comprehensive screening, diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer is very necessary. In particular, virtual navigation ultrasound technique Navigation, in which the doctor uses Navigation through the endoscope, can be combined with EBUS for high results.

Dr. Nguyen Van Tho - Head of the Department of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases, University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City also highly appreciated the role of Flexible Bronchoscopy and Endoscopic Ultrasound Bronchoscopy (EBUS).

However, very few hospitals in Vietnam invest in this system due to high costs and the time required to train medical staff.

At the workshop, MSc. Dr. Su Jang Wen - Thoracic Surgery and Lung Cancer Specialist, O2 Healthcare Group (Singapore) said, treating small nodules in the lungs, where cancer cells develop silently. Previously, these small nodules would often go unnoticed. When these small nodules are discovered, patients should consider surgery.
