Patient P.V.S, 77 years old, in Hai Phong has lived with prostate enlargement for many years. He knew the disease needed surgery but delayed it many times. It was only when his urinary tract had bleeding, fever, and severe infections that he was hospitalized and discovered a prostate tumor weighing up to 484 grams more than 20 times the normal size (20-30 grams) and 6 times the common type of obesity in people over 60 years old.
Previously, the patient had a history of high blood pressure and prostate enlargement. After the hemorrhage, he had urine issuance, and his family took him to the hospital for emergency care. Despite active treatment, the patient still had fever, E. coli infection and towardsospermitis on both sides. The patient was transferred to the Department of General Surgery, Urology and Andrology, Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases.
Clinical examination showed that the prostate of the patient was abnormal in obesity, compressing the urethra, causing urine and severe infection. To control the condition, the doctor had to continuously wash the bladder with an antibacterial solution.
"The patient had been scheduled for surgery for a long time but continuously refused, only having a urine tube to relieve symptoms. As a result, the large enlarged tumor is 6 times more severe than usual, making surgery extremely difficult" - said Dr. Tran Thuong Viet, Head of the Department of General Surgery, Urology and Andrology.
Because the tumor occupied the entire subcraft, the surgical team had to remove it wide and hold complicated blood. After many hours, the surgery was successful. Five days later, the patient recovered well and was about to be discharged from the hospital.
Doctor Viet warned: Prostite enlargement is a common disease in men over 50 years old, causing urinary difficulty, frequent urination, which can lead to urine, bleeding, bladder stones, and even chronic kidney failure. If you are intercepted early, just need a laser endoscopy surgery to have less bleeding and recover quickly.
Men with urinary tract disorders should see a doctor early to avoid dangerous complications.
