Entering the match against Gent in the second round of the Conference League qualifying round, Chelsea were full of confidence. They even replaced 11 players compared to the last victory over Brighton. There were not many surprises, as The Blues still easily defeated Gent with a score of 4-2. This was also the 5th consecutive victory of Enzo Maresca and his team.
For young talent Cesare Casadei, this was a special match. He was making his first appearance in a European match and also taking on a new role as a holding midfielder. He had previously played as an attacking midfielder at Leicester City - also under Maresca.
After the match, Enzo Maresca explained how he used Cesare Casadei, according to Metro: "Cesare played very well against Barrow and even better in the last match. I'm very happy with the way he performed.
I had Caseare last year and he played in a slightly different position. But this year we will play him as a defensive midfielder. The reason is because I think football needs physical players in midfield. Casere is very tall and strong, he will help Chelsea put pressure on the opponents.
With the ball, he is improving a lot. Tonight, most of the time it was one-touch passes so we are happy. For him, there is still a lot to improve but the good thing is that everything is going in the right direction."
Cesare Casadei has played two games for Chelsea this season, but only in cup competitions. A move to a new position could give the 21-year-old more playing time, especially in the Premier League.
