After the departure of caretaker coach Lee Carsley, England have found a new face. According to European media, Thomas Tuchel has just signed an 18-month contract with the Three Lions. This makes the former Chelsea coach the first German to take charge of the England team.
However, Lee Carsley will still lead England for the remaining two Nations League matches in November, while Tuchel will only officially take the job in January 2025. Former player Danny Mills believes the new coach should have arrived sooner, according to Metro: "It's strange, he only wants to start in January. Why doesn't he come in for the next two games, get to know the players, the system and everything?
He's done well, he's won a lot of trophies, but that doesn't mean Thomas Tuchel is going to come in and help England win the World Cup."
Danny Mills also stressed that he wanted an England manager, but he believes there is no one else available at the moment. He continued: "Tuchel is a fantastic manager, let's not forget that. In the past, he had some problems, but that's because he couldn't buy players, which doesn't happen with the national team. He's a very, very good manager. I'm surprised how quickly it's happened.
Would I prefer an English coach? Of course. But the options are very, very limited. Tuchel has won the Champions League, titles at many clubs, so he is absolutely qualified.”
