The semi-final of the women's 400m hurdles has 24 athletes participating. They will be divided into 3 rounds, each round has 8 athletes. The two athletes at the top of each run along with the 2 athletes with the next best results will enter the final for the medal.
Quach Thi Lan competed in the semi-finals after achieving a time of 55 seconds 71 in the qualifying round. She competed in the first run with 7 opponents from Norway, Germany, Belgium, Jamaica, USA, Canada and Italy. The weather was not favorable for athletes when it rained heavily before the competition.
