Van Don peach blossom (Quang Ninh) or also known as Van Don stone peach, is a native peach variety, with 5 light pink petals, growing naturally in forests and mountains.
From 1978 to 1979, many local families brought peach trees from the rocky mountains to plant in their gardens to get fruit and flowers for Tet.
After many years, peach gardens gradually formed in coastal communes and became a famous typical flower in Quang Ninh with 5 petals, large blooms and long lasting.
Van Don district has about 70 hectares of peach blossom growing area with more than 300 households participating, mainly concentrated in Ha Long commune (50 hectares), Dong Xa, Binh Dan, Doan Ket and Cai Rong town. After storm Yagi, about 20% of peach blossom growing area was damaged.
Taking reporters to visit 2 gardens with 600 peach trees, Mr. Le Van Ban (54 years old, village 5, Ha Long commune) - said: "Van Don peach trees are very resilient, storm Yagi devastated them like that but only a few trees fell, some trees were uprooted, replanted and still lived as usual.
Peach trees in the garden must be 4 years old to be ready for harvest. If left for 5 to 7 years, the price will be higher.
This year, the family sold more than 100 trees, 50 fewer than last year because the trees were not big enough. About 10 trees cost 20-25 million, the rest cost 2-5 million.
Up to now (January 8, 2025), all customers have booked. Van Don peach blossoms have tenacious vitality, from blooming to falling, it takes 15 days."
From January 15 to January 28, 2025, the People's Committee of Van Don district will organize the 2025 Van Don Peach Blossom Fair in Ha Long commune. The event is not only a place for people and tourists to choose ornamental plants, but also an opportunity to honor and promote the Van Don peach blossom brand - a product closely associated with the historical culture of the district.
Mr. Dao Van Vu - Vice Chairman of Van Don District People's Committee - said: "Up to now, Van Don Peach Blossom Fair has had more than 30 households registered to participate with about more than 1,000 peach blossom trees. Among them, there are many beautiful, unique, rare peach trees with high economic value".
Through a survey of gardeners, during the Lunar New Year 2025, peach growers in Van Don district will supply the market with about 60,000 peach trees.
Despite many challenges from natural disasters, Van Don peach blossoms still affirm their strong vitality, maintaining their position as a favorite Tet flower and the pride of Quang Ninh.
